In the 1990s, Carmen signed with Interscope Records as part of an all-girl group championed by NBA legend Magic Johnson, marking an early foundation for her professional career.

In 2001, she performed an impromptu gospel duet with Jamie Foxx at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland—a moment that later gained wide attention online and introduced her powerhouse vocals to a broader audience.

Carmen has performed at venues including Yoshi’s Oakland and Blue Note Napa and has shared the stage with artists such as Howard Hewett, Jackson Browne, El DeBarge, and Al B. Sure!, who describes Carmen as “the real deal—authentic soul through and through.”
